Facility: Tridel - Thermal and electrical waste recovery plant https://www.tridel.ch/fr/fonctionnement-de-lusine Location : Lausanne, Switzerland Reason for selecting this activity: The plant is visible from my apartment and just 5 minutes walking distance. What did you want to find out: This waste recovery plant is burning non-recyclable rubbish 24/7, generating power and hot water for Lausanne. How clean is the air coming out of the chimney? What did you learn: Thanks for various steps to capture pollutants resulting from combustion, the gases released from the chimney at 140°C comply with the requirements of Swiss legislation and are largely under the permitted values (all below 20% except nitrogen dioxide at approx 45%). A smoke analyzer constantly monitors the quality of gas emissions.

I regularly check my email box and delete emails. Maintaining a data center consumes a significant amount of energy. I believe deleting unnecessary emails can help reduce carbon footprints.

All my audio equipment and other electrical accessories are connected together so that with a single switch, I can turn them all off at once. This helps prevent accidentally leaving any of them on and saves electrical energy.

I've delayed doing the laundry by wearing clothes multiple times. Tomorrow when I do laundry I'm going to use "guppy bags" that I already had but didn't know what they're for - they reduce the amount of microplastics released in the water from synthetic/plastic fabrics.

I studied the San Diego Trolley Map (one of the few public transport options in the city) and found a number of places that I frequent that I can get to on the trolley. The challenge will be getting to a nearby station from my home - I could either bike or drive (park and ride).

I went to the park near downtown to pick up some garbage. It took me very little time to fill the garbage bag. I noticed several tents set up around the park and felt sympathy for the homeless people who will have to struggle for survival through this winter.
